Sexual activity, infidelity, and sexual assault are depicted in perhaps a third of the episodes. Sex is either implied, or only the beginning making out activity; no thrusting except perhaps once. No nudity is shown in the American DVD version, but female clothing set in certain historical periods emphasizes cleavage. The act of vampire feeding is explicitly linked to sexual satisfaction (for the vampires).

The third season has a few scenes that are more graphic, including an entire fire-charred corpse (but little detail shown), a brief look at intestines being removed from a corpse, and the gaping wounds of a suicide-by-wrist slitting.

War violence is shown several times. The screams of injured soldiers are heard.

On several occasions a vampire is staked, with the weapon protruding from the chest or back but not much blood. At least twice a vampire is caught or chooses sunlight and bursts into flames.

Some fight scenes and shootouts, usually only showing bullet holes in clothes, rarely clean entry wounds. Exit wounds are not shown but occasionally copious blood indicates the severity of the trauma. Some vampire violence like people getting bit in the neck, showing only some blood on the vampires mouth or rarely the neck with clean puncture wounds.

Very little, a few dammits.

Scenes inside a bar/club are recurring. A lot of social drinking is shown, and occasionally people are shown drunk. Some smoking of hookahs is depicted. Drug dealing and drug use are referenced in some episodes.

One or more people die in almost every episode -- Nick Knight is a homicide cop -- but only a few deaths are shown to be intensely painful or grotesque.

Depictions of suicide occur a few times.

The series includes scenes of emotional violence; mentally disturbed and intoxicated people ranting, and the heartbreak of losing loved ones.
