A few episodes include battle scenes with guns and cannons but they are mostly bloodless.

The Japanese sub includes occasional mild profanity, limited to "d*mn" and "hell". There is no English dub.

Many characters are seen drinking wine and getting drunk. Thénardier is a voracious drinker and Grantaire is virtually always drunk.

A little girl sometimes gets beaten by her cruel caretakers.

Some characters die and this can be very emotional.
