In a long scene, a wife is reaching into a bathtub and scrubbing her husband. The wife is fully clothed, and only the husband's bare upper-back is shown.

A girl gathers vegetation from a field and urinates onto it. The camera is focused on her feet and she is wearing a dress, fully clothed.

During a test to determine if a girl is a witch, a chicken's head is cut off. The action and the killed animal are not shown. A small spurt of blood lands at the feet of the girl.

During a witch initiation, 3 small cuts/scars (described as "tattoos") are placed on the forehead of a young girl. This action is shot from behind the girls head and is not shown, but the small scars are seen for the rest of the film. The girl is not shown to be in any pain.

Townspeople exchange bottles of gin, among other items, for the services provided by the witch colony. A merchant accepts these bottle of gin in exchange for goods.

In several scenes, gin is poured onto the entrance step of a home in order to keep "wicked spirits" at bay.

Violence is threatened against the "witches" by townspeople in several scenes when the women are alone. This is mostly shouting, but can be unsettling when the scene involves adult men and a minor girl.
