The story is set near the end of the Qing Dynasty, Liu Zhongxiang is a big landlord who owns many land in Hankou. As someone who were affected by Western ideologies, he believed complete infrastructure like roads and bridge is the building foundation of a strong city. To realize his vision, he needed to battle with the local officials and the foreign invaders.
