In her 34th annual New Year's speech the Queen of Denmark speaks about the aftermath of the Asian tsunami, the earthquake in Pakistan and hurricane Katrina and sends her thanks to those who work to help those affected. Six months after the London bombings she also talks about the threat of terrorism and stresses the importance of democracy and dialogue. She sends her regards to the armed forces, to all Danes abroad and to Greenland and the Faroe Islands and expresses her joy over having a new grandchild, Prince Christian. Accompanied by the ceremonial change of guard at the royal palace, the speech was broadcast live by DR, who produced it, but also on other channels who used their own hosts and reporters.
