The whole film, due to its camera work and emphasis on colors and visual effects, is a kind of psychedelic journey. This gives a very peculiar tone to the movie.

The film deals with death and puts the viewer in the position of a dying man.

The sex scenes are very graphic and quite intense (though not completely explicit), especially in the last minutes of the film.

The same goes for the violence: there are very few violent encounters but when there are, it's pretty tense and always hard to Watch somehow.
